One of the things I love about researching suitable music for arrangement is re-discovering long-forgotten works.

If you listen to the popular classics on the radio you’d be forgiven for thinking Edvard Grieg only wrote two works: a piano concerto, and Peer Gynt – great though they be.

But here is a little gem of a work. Using Nordic folk melodies, Grieg has worked his magic and created this. Originally for string orchestra, they work perfectly for a viola ensemble. The first is slow and romantic, and the second finishes with a wild dance. 11 mins. M
