You’d be amazed what can be arranged for viola quartet if one has the time. But there can be no shortcuts. Every note of the score is scrutinised thoroughly, nothing is overlooked. And what you get, it is hoped, is something that the original composer would have done himself, hypothetically, if they’d had the time, of course.
But Schubert clearly didn’t have the time because he never finished it. Nonetheless, it is a firm favorite with the concert goers.
