You may be forgiven for thinking this is an unusual choice to arrange for viola quartet – but not really. 

Being originally for solo cello and orchestra, one finds that where much of the time the solo cello is playing up the A-string, which happens to be precisely where the viola’s comfort zone lies.

So what we have is a very pleasing set of variations where all the players have plenty of melodic interest, but the first player has a slightly harder part over all. 18 mins. M/A
