Before the symphony was a thing, if composers really wanted to raise the roof then they’d compose a grand Orchestral Suite in the French style, in the form of a compilation of stylized French dances preceded by a grand Overture.
And that is exactly what J S Bach did. And his Four Orchestral Suites are indeed hugely impressive works.
And now, for the first time in 400 years you can have the complete set in our unique all-viola arrangements. Although I should add, parts 1 and 2 can also be played on violin. 100 mins. M/A
