Dittersdorf – Notturno

It’s worth giving him his full name purely for the novelty value: August Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf. Top that!

So, as well as having a great name, he was a renowned violinist, conductor, and composer, and also good friends with Haydn and Mozart, with whom he would get together for some fun string quartets. I’d love to have been there.

This is a wonderfully elegant 3-movement work that he had originally written for flute quartet. But it makes a truly delightful viola quartet, I hope you’ll agree. 13 mins. E/M
