Wolfgang had a long correspondence with his father, Leopold, throughout his long absence from home. And amongst Leopold’s many words of advice was that he should not be too proud to go down the popular path, and give the people the sort of fun and catchy tunes that were all the rage at the time. So that is what he did. And, it goes without saying, anything Mozart turns his mind to is bound to be superb.
