Description

This was originally the slow movement from his first string quartet. And it has proven very popular played as a short work in its own right, and it’s not hard to see why.

However, in the original it is the first violin who gets the melody throughout, leaving the others as the backing band. Hence, it has been much arranged as a solo work for several different instruments over the years.

But never before as a viola quartet to the best of my knowledge.

And better still, all the players get to play the melody, including the fourth player who has to tune the C string down to B flat.
