Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony is hard work for us violists. And it’s largely because of this third, and penultimate, movement; an energetic, and very loud March. Just when you think ff is giving it all you have, he then writes fff, and then, when you’re right arm is about to drop off and you’re on your knees, he writes sempre ffff.
