Hugo Wolf, the great Austrian romantic composer, has eluded me during my symphonic career. And it is only now that I have realised what I’ve been missing for all those years.

He seems to be known mostly as a composer of songs, of which he has produced many, and they are superb. Yet there are some significant symphonic works. And this is certainly a great example.

And of course it was just crying out to be violaized. So I’m delighted to present this exciting quartet with lots of action in all the parts. 8 mins. M
