Grieg – Holberg Suite for viola quintet



Here’s a great example of a composer recycling his own music – they often did, you know.

Originally written for piano, Grieg then arranged it for string orchestra. And anyone who’s had the pleasure of playing it will know it’s a great work to play.

And now for the first time it has become a viola quintet, or equally suitable as a viola orchestra. There are five movements based on renaissance dances: Prelude, Saraband, Gavotte & Musette, Air, Rigaudon. Wonderful! 18 mins. M
