Description
Of all Bach’s great works there was never anything quite like it, either before or after. It really was a total one-off. It is on a massive scale, being of comparable length to a complete Mahler symphony. It begins with a Saraband, titled ‘Aria’, and is followed by 30 variations, then finally returns Da Capo to the Aria.
The work is entirely in the key of G (both major and minor) and is a monumental work of genius.
And here is our very own version, arranged for viola trio, with nothing taken away from the original, but subtly translated into the language of the viola. Oh joy! 82 mins. M
