From Beethoven’s middle period (as it is referred to) where he often pushes the capabilities of his instruments to the limit.
But having said that, I was pleasantly surprised at how very easily this arrangement lies under the fingers.
It is a powerful piece of writing, reflecting the tragedy of the narrative of the play for which it was written. And being in F Minor gives it that extra dark quality. 8 mins. M
