Locke – Suite in D Minor in Four Parts

£5.99

Description

Matthew Locke was a 17th century composer who studied under Orland Gibbons. He became highly respected and was appointed composer to the court of King Charles II. He was succeeded by Purcell who composed a very moving tribute to him.

As was often the custom, this Suite was not composed for specific instruments but rather any combination that was available and suited the occasion.

Hence I have set the first two parts for either viola or violin, and it probably goes without saying that they would be somewhat easier on violin (E). But they work perfectly well on viola (M), also.

Ideal ensemble repertoire for the chamber music scholar 17mins.
