Description
Bartók composed three volumes, titled collectively “Nine Small Piano Pieces”.
The first four of these are ideal for viola duo. Indeed, they seem to me to be altogether better suited as string works, there being so much nuance of which only a viola is capable.
Typically, the tonality can not be described as either major or minor, but rather polytonal and modal, giving these works a slightly melancholic and dreamy mood. They are very lovely.
The first three are ideal for players of moderate ability, but the final duo is very fast, so would be more suitable for advanced players. 6 mins. M
