Bridge – An Irish Melody

£6.99

Description

Frank Bridge, one of England’s great late romantic composers – and also a distinguished violist and conductor, no less.

So, here is an arrangement of what is sometimes played either as a string quartet, or with a string orchestra: The famous and very beautiful “The Londonderry Air” in our version for viola quartet.

After a brief rendering of the famous melody (not in the original work), Bridge teases the listener by fragmenting the melody and using it for some clever counterpoint with rich romantic harmonies that sometimes lapse into the traditional pentatonic mode. Then, again we are treated to the lovely melody in its entirety. Absolutely charming! 9 mins. M
