Description
From one of the greats of the late Renaissance, a volume of 8 pieces where each one is written in one of the old ecclesiastical modes.
Unusually for Palestrina this is not a sacred choral work but was always intended to be for instrumental ensemble, which makes this particularly beguiling. As was frequently the custom, no actual instruments were specified, but rather whatever mix is available – so speaking as a violist, that suits me fine!
They work equally well as a solo quartet or large viola ensemble and the first two parts can be played on violin or viola. 20 mins E/M
