Description
Fauré was asked to compose some incidental music for a tragic play by the renowned author, Maurice Maeterlink. Other composers later wrote music inspired by the same drama.
He later assembled the music into a four-movement orchestral suite, and that is the version that I have arranged into a complete viola quartet: Prélude, La Fileuse, Sicilienne, and La mort de Mélisande.
It works perfectly as a viola quartet. The four parts are evenly matched with lots of melodic interest for all the players. Ideal for players of moderate ability upwards. 17 mins. M
