Description

Here is a remarkable work, just begging to be arranged for viola quartet. He had originally scored it for cello and piano, then later adapted it for violin with a few other changes along the way. It was written in 1869, five years before the tragic end of his all too short life, and maybe gives a small glimpse into the troubled mind of a musical genius tormented by his inner demons.

They are not settings of known folk tunes, such as the sort of popular music that Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, and others produced at times, but rather created from his own imagination. And they are utterly wonderful. 13 mins. M
