Bach’s 1st Orchestral Suite, originally for 2 oboes, bassoon, and strings, is written in the popular French style of the time, and features a substantial overture followed by a number of French dances: Courante, Gavotte 1, Gavotte 2, Forlane, Menuet 1, Menuet 2, Bourrée 1, Bourrée 2, Passpied 1, Passpied 2.
It makes for a very pleasing viola quartet, and is equally suitable for viola orchestra. (Parts 1 and 2 can also be played on violin) 23 mins. M
